Sound Sight

You take a readily available pair of vga type glasses and a portable pc, like the OQO, and add in a few microphones to give the deaf a little easier life. A person wears the portable pc with the Glasses HUD, along with 3 or more microphones placed on the body at different locations. 3 or more microphones are needed in order to trianglulate the position in which the sound is coming from. Sound is brought in from the mics and using voice to text software and the position gained from the different mics, it is displayed on the HUD. If the sound is created from some point that is in the view, it show on the HUD at the point of origin. If it is off screen, it displays to the nearest side.

Proximity Lighting

What if we all carried on us a little signaling device, say a ring or necklace, that let’s our house know which room we are in at the moment. We could use this to control the lighting in our homes. If it sees we are in a room , it could automatically turn the lights on for us, or if no one was in a room it would shut the lights off for us. This would be relatively simple to make and save plenty of electricity in our lives, and forever end the arguments for shutting the lights off if you are not in a room. It could also be useful for many other things, like quickly finding out where your kids are….heh

Adjustable Cylinder Engine

This idea is for a gas engine (any type) that has for this example 8 cylinders. The idea is that you do not always need or want all 8 cylinders running unless you need the power. My ideas is to let the user control how much he needs or don’t or even an automatic , computer controlled system picks the best amount for the situation. Say on the dash , you can turn the number of operating cylinders down to 3 or 4 to be fuel efficient , or back up to 6 or 8 if more power is needed… The unused cylinders would still be spinning on the shaft, just the computer would not feed them fuel if they or off… The computer could handle the different timings required for the different modes the engine would run in (3 cylinder mode, 4 cylinder mode, 6 cylinder mode , etc…). This would allow for fuel efficiency or power , whenever the need arises… granted this would not be for already fuel efficient small cars, but in a SUV filled world, have the option to run fuel efficient or not would save lots of gas.
